You’ve heard people say things like “I just don’t have any energy today” or “that place had such a heavy energy”, but what does that really mean?
In the world of healing and self-awareness, energy isn’t just about how tired or awake we feel. It’s the subtle life force that moves through every part of us; our thoughts, emotions, body, and spirit. It can also be called chi, prana, or life force, depending on the culture or tradition, but they all describe the same idea: the invisible current that keeps us alive, connected, and in flow.
When this energy moves freely, we feel balanced, calm, clear, and at ease. When it becomes blocked, scattered, or depleted, we can feel off-centre, tired, emotional, or even physically unwell.
The Energetic Body and the Chakras
Just as your body has systems like the nervous or circulatory system, your energetic body has its own. At the heart of this system are the chakras, which have seven main energy centres that run along your spine, each relating to different parts of your wellbeing:
Root: safety, stability, grounding
Sacral: emotions, creativity, flow
Solar Plexus: confidence, self-worth
Heart: love, compassion, connection
Throat: truth and communication
Third Eye: intuition and clarity
Crown: spiritual connection and trust
When your chakras are balanced, energy moves smoothly throughout your body. When one becomes blocked or overactive, you might notice physical tension, emotional shifts, or that something just doesn’t feel right.
Why Balancing Your Energy Matters
Think of your energy like tuning a musical instrument. When each string (chakra) is in harmony, the sound, your energy, flows beautifully. But if one is off, everything feels slightly out of tune.
When your energy is balanced, you may notice:
More emotional stability
Clearer thinking
Deeper rest
A stronger sense of inner peace
Balance isn’t about being perfect, it’s about being aware and gently returning to harmony when life pulls you off-centre.
How to Bring Your Energy Back Into Flow
Our energy naturally ebbs and flows with life. Stress, busyness, grief, or even certain environments can shift how we feel. The good news is that energy responds beautifully to gentle care.
Simple practices such as quiet time, mindful breathing, time in nature, or grounding your body can make a big difference. Energy-based healing such as Reiki can also help clear blockages and restore flow through your chakras, supporting your body’s natural ability to rebalance itself. Many people describe it as a deep exhale, a feeling of lightness and clarity returning. You don’t have to understand it fully to feel it. Your body already knows how to find balance once given the space to do so, you and will notice the difference!
It's important to take the time to tune into yourself, and ask... How does my energy feel today? Light or heavy? Calm or scattered?
This gentle awareness is the first step in balancing your energy. From there, you can use breath, grounding, yoga, or a Reiki session to help restore flow and clarity.
Your energy is the thread that connects your body, mind, and spirit. Nurturing it is an essential part of keeping both your mental and physical wellbeing in balance. When your energy flows freely, life feels softer, clearer, and more aligned.
